Victor Goncalves de Sousa
- Graduate Student
Before coming to Pitt, I completed an MA and a PhD in Philosophy at the University of São Paulo. During my previous graduate studies, I focused mainly on the study of Aristotle’s Ethics. I wrote a MA Thesis on Aristotle’s conception of Practical Truth and a PhD Dissertation on the question of the role of reason in determining the ends of action in Aristotle’s practical philosophy. My primary research interests are ancient ethics, metaphysics, and epistemology, particularly in Plato, in the Early Academy, in Aristotle, and in the later Peripatetics. I am also interested in Early Stoicism, Kant, metaethics, and textual criticism and classical philology—I’m particularly interested in the textual transmission of the Ethica Nicomachea (see my contribution to the topic in https://www.revistas.usp.br/filosofiaantiga/article/view/223742/205096).
